The Red Pyramid

A while ago I put up some books that I was hoping to read. Now thanks to my friend Adrianna I was able to read the Red Pyramid. The Red Pyramis is a 515 page book byRick Riordan. It is the first instalment of The Kane Chronicles. The series follows Carter and Sadie Kane on their quest to reunite man and gods. After their father magically dissappears, Carter and Sadie learn that their family is part on the ancient Egyptian House of Life. Magicians who work to imprison the gods. Carter and Sadie are descendants of the pharohs, and are exceptionally powerful. Then they realize they are posessed by ancient Egyptian gods. On a treck across America with a baboon, cat godess, and untrustworthy uncle, the Kanes encounter dangers that bring them together. They find the truth about their parent's death and what it takes to save the world.
Overall I thought this was a pretty good book. It's not one of my favorite boos but it's really interesting. it's kinda similar to the first Percy Jackson book. I will definetly be looking out for the next book in this series. I would recommend it.

Harry Potter

This week I finally decided to read the Harry Potter series. I must be one of the only people who didn't like the series before. Years ago I tried it and didn't like it. I started reading the first book on Sunday, and finished it that night. It is actually a really interesting series. So far I've read the first two books, so I should have a tab for it soon. If you haven't read these books yet they are a good read. The movies are also really good and they're really similar to the books. Be sure to check out the tab where I will put my summary, thoughts, and movie reviews.
Also, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

Speak Now by Taylor Swift

This month's album is "Speak Now" by Taylor Swift. It is Taylor Swift's third album and it was written entierly by her. It was a top selling album with over 1,000,000 copies sold in the first week.Taylor has set a new record by having 11 songs from her new album in the Billboard Hot 100 chart at the same time. She’s also the only female artist ever to have that many songs on the chart. It is actually I pretty good album, about 15 songs long. My favorite songs were "Innocent", "Ours", "Mine" and "Back To December". Theres pop country music that is really fun on this album. It is by far Taylor's best album yet, and has some songs that convey almost all emotions. This album is really good. Check it out

Avalon High

Avalon High is a book by Meg Cabot. In the story Elaine moves to Maryland so that her parents, medieval professors can do some research and take a break from teaching. She quickly meets the star of the football team, student president, and all around good guy,Will. Ellie falls in love with Will, of course there is a problem. Will is dating the head cheerleader, Jennifer. Ellie meets their best friend, Lance, who ends up her partner in world literature. Ellie starts to notice tensions and uncover secrets with this small group of friends. She makes an enemy too, Will's step-brother Marco. Marco seems to be trying to ruin Will's life. Then even stranger she begins to notice similarities with King Arthur and his court. Could the belief that Arthur will one day be reincarnated to safe human kind be true? If so, what role does Ellie play? Time is running short and the forces of darkness are fighting hard. Will anybody be able to stop them from winning the ancient battle again?

I really liked this book until the end. It was not as exciting as I thought I would've been and when it was done I was left thinking,"Is that it?"For most of the book the characters don't know who they are and in the end I don't think they do either. I'm trying to find a sequel but I don't think there is one. Also Disney's movie of the same name is coming out int he beginning of November so I'm interested if they will change the story.

New Series

I have 3 new series that I am really excited about. After I finished the Percy Jackson books, I began looking around a bit and found another 3 series I really want to read. They are similar to other ones I've read so if you liked them awesome. The first series in the Kane Chronicles. It is another series by Rick Riordan. This series has only one book out right now, "The Red Pyramid". It is about two siblings, one who lives in London and one who travels the world with their father, an Egyptology's. Their mother was killed years before. While they are in London the kids begin to learn about their mother, but strange circumstances lead to the disappearance of their father. The ancient Egyptian gods come back to life and are after the Kane siblings. It's kinda similar to the Percy Jackson books but sounds good.
The next series is also by Rick Riordan. It is called The Hero's Of Olympus. It is another five book series about the campers of Camp Half-Blood, including Percy Jackson, Annabeth, and other main characters from the Percy Jackson books. There is also a new group of demi-gods who also get part of the action. In the first book three kids are attacked by monsters and Annabeth shows up. She's looking for Percy who is apparently missing.. The first book, The Lost Hero, is out October 12.
The third series has to do with the 39 clues series. If you read that last book the end hints towards a new series with another rival family. I was excited to see my predictions were correct because in April of 2011 a new series will be out. It will be Vespers rising. The Cahills thought they were the only people who knew about the clues but a much more powerful, evil family also knew the truth and will stop at nothing. Well those are my new finds. I'll post links below to all the official sites. If you find more interesting series, of more info on these, add a comment.
thanks, Kathryn

Percy Jackson and The Olympians

As you know there is a Percy Jackson tab on this blog. I only recently was able to read the series so this is my review. The percy jackson series is about a boy named Percy. His mother is a mortal who lives in Manhattan and his father is the god Poseidon. When his math teacher suddenly tries to kill him Percy's life is turned upside down. He is brought to Camp Half-Blood, a magical camp on Long Island for demi-gods. He befriends Athena's daughter Annabeth Chase. The series is about Percy, Annabeth, their friend Grover, and Camp Half-Blood. The Titan Lord Kronos is preparing a army to attack the Gods on top Mount Olympus, led by a half-blood named Luke. A prophecy about half-blood children deciding the fate of the world brings danger to Percy and his friends. I personally think this is one of the best series ever, and would highly recommend it to everyone. I am also very excited because the sequal series, Heroes Of Olympus is out next month. Earlier in the year the first movie, Percy Jackson and the Olympians-The Lightning Theif is out. Check out a more complete summary in the tab.

The Mysterious Benedict Society

When an odd add in a newspaper invited children to take a series of tests for an amazing opportunity, tons of children show up. A series of crazy tests breaks the large group down to four children. Reynie, Sticky, Kate and Constance were the only four children chosen for the amazing opportunities. Reynie aced the test by finding a puzzle, Sticky passed it by knowledge of the stuff on the test, Kate helped the teacher escape a mob of angry parents, and Constance just wrote poems to every question. They were all brought into a house to find out what the tests were all for. They found out that they were all alone. Reynie and Kate are orphans and Sticky ran away from his greedy parents. Constance is a very stubborn girl. They meet a man named Mr. Benedict. He wants them to be secret agents. Someone is sending messages straight into people's minds through an amazing device. Mr. Benedict suspects he knows the culprit and sends the children to live undercover at an institution on an offshore island. They arrive and quickly rise in the ranks of students. They all find out that the man running the institution is Mr. Benedict's twin, an evil genius. He sends messages into peoples mind and erases any memories from anybody who opposes him. The newly formed Mysterious Benedict Society has a important mission to a crazy place in this exciting book.

A Year Without Rain

Just to let everyone know I am adding movie and music reviews to this blog. My first new music album I wanted to talk about is "A Year Without Rain" by Selena Gomez. It is in stores today. The CD has 10 tracks including, "Round & Round" and "A Year Without Rain". The whole CD is very dance pop music. It features "Rock God", a song by Katy Perry. Another song, "Intuition" is a duet with Eric Bellinger. All the lyrics are empowering and the songs are fun to listen to. My favorite songs were "Ghost of You" and "Off The Chain". I really liked it so comment what you think.

We is given a test and people believe he is the chosen one who came to save them. He also goes to the enchanters. She tells them the prophecy. One stone will recognize the chosen one. Powers

Powers is the third book about the western shore. It is the longest one too at over 500 pages. I liked this book a lot but it's really different from the other ones. You don't see how Orrec and Gry really are connected till the end. It follows a slave boy named Gav. He is from the Marshes but when he was young, was captured by soliders along with his sister. He has odd visions sometimes about the future and has an amazing memory. He is destined to grow up and become the teacher for his house. He however has a hard childhood with many larger boys. For about 14 years he is perfectly content in his life. He can learn and have "power". Then one event changes him forever. He leaves his life and walks away. For a while he just walks and then he finds people he think he belongs with. Each time he realizes his past makes him too different. He's just trying to fiure out life and freedom. A lot of it is about what freedom really is, ignorance, bondage, wealth, love. It also explains really the mindset of many slaves , or just ignorant people. I really like this book and I hope I can find more by this author.

The City Of Embers

The City Of Embers is a interesting idea of what our world may oneday come to. It was wrote in 2003 by Jeanne DuPrau. The City is underground. There is no sun, no sky, just electricity. There are many blackouts and supplies is scarce. A group of three kids find the key to their problem, a letter. The only problem is it was destroyed. The kids must find the truth about their world and the rest of it in order to save their people. Is there more out there? Should you listen to people just because they're in charge? What would you do to make sure that your light doesn't go out forever?

Gifts

Gifts by Ursula K. Le Guin. Is a really good book. It is set on the west shore of a unknown land. The uplander(what they call the people in the hills) have gifts. They a basically magical powers. The land is broke into small domains. The domains had been waring for years. In one domain one little boy is born. Soon after a girl is born in the next domain. The boy in named Orrec, Orrec Caspro. His clans gift in unmaking. That means you can look at a animal and turn the bones to mush. His best friend, Gry, can talk to animals. Orrec's mother is not from the uplands. She was a learned preacher's daughter who came to marry a man from the uplands. At the age of about 13 your gift is suppose to work. Gry can now communicate with animals, but Orrec can do nothing. His father tries and tries but Orrec's gift won't work. Then suddenly when he is out riding with is father he "unmakes" the whole hillside. Then he does the same to his dog. They claim he has the wild gift and could be very dangerous. The blindfold Orrec, so that he can't look and destroy anything. One day they travel to another domain. Their power is they say a spell and whoever they say it over will get sick and die soon after. The men there are sometimes rude and drink a lot. They fear Orrec and don't do anything to him. His mother however feels chilled and cannot feel warm again. She gets sicker once the return. For about a year she suffers, it is clear a spell was cast upon her. Finally a year later she dies, but not before she writes books. She writes down all the stories she was taught for her son. He is the only person in the Uplands who knows how to read. For days Orrec's father shuts himself away. The days turn to months and for years he is sad. The only time Orrec ever takes his blindfold off is to read his mother's stories. Gry trains him a guide dog to help in in his life. Finally Orrec takes off the blindfold. He tries to cast a spell but nothing comes of it. Suddenly Orrec knows the truth. He never had a gift, it was a trick. A trick that prevented him from seeing his dying mother, and so much else. What will Orrec do faced with this revilation?

hi

It's been a while since I posted. I've been very busy. We went into New York three times. I went to Time Square, The Empire state building and Central park. I also rode on a subway and ferry. The weather was great and Central park was amazing. We saw them filming some stuff too. Time Square was very colorful. I went into the largest candy store I've ever seen. There is also a Toys R Us that is 4 stories high with a ferris wheel in the middle. Also we went to Broadway(the street) and bought a lot of stuff. We went to the Scholastics store and little brother bought two 39 clues books. Today I went to my relative's house and went to the pool there. My relatives are super awesome and loving. I am leaving tomorrow:(

LOST

Normally this is a book blog but today I would like to tell you about a T.V. series. Last ight the fial episode of "LOST" premiered on ABC. I would recommend watching the whole series if you haven't. It is a very interesting story of surival, adventure and faith. When LOST first started in 2004, it was seen as a T.V. show about a group of people planewrecked on a weird island. Now 6 years later , it has eveolved into a story of friends and believing in faith.

After their plane breaks in half over a pacific island, the suriviors of an Oceanic flight are left alone in the jungle, no help on the way. They soon find out that they are not on an average island. In the first episode, they shoot and kill a polar bear. They pick up odd radio messages and quickly realize that there are others on the island. The "others" are out to destory the surivors, headed by Ben Linus. A man who grew up on the island with a troubled past. A doctor named Jack Shepard takes charge. A girl namaed Kate Austin helps and trys to redeem herself for killing her step-father. A man called Sawyer fights within their camps and for love. A trouble Korean couple find that they trully love each other after the plane crash. A pregnant Australian woman trys to be happily in her new home, while a Iraqi named Syidi tries to help the others and prove to himself that he is a good person. Hugo, a lottery winner, trys to help everyone, he belives it'shis bad luck that the plane crashed. Then there is John Locke. Locke was paralyzzed fro the waist down, on the island he was able to walk. He was the only surivor who wanted to stay on the island. Over the time that they are on the island they face many enemies, including the other, and loose many firends. LOST is a story of a group of strangers coming together to surive. They come from all over the world, in different walks of life, but soon they all become part of a team. Other people throught the series emerg and join them or the enemy. In the end it is a brilliantly written story of good vs. evil. There has never been another show like "LOST" and probally unlike any i the future. Philosiphy, science, history and references to many other things are what make it so interesting. I would not recommend LOST to you if you like nice clean endings or lots of answers. You have to use your immagination a lot for LOST. In the end it is a true story of beileving. I thought that in the end it was touching but slightly confusing. I can't even begin to explain it because it is far to complicated and exciting. It is a series that each episode is like a chapter in a book, so you can't just pop in on it. There is time travel, flash backwardses, flash fowards, and flash side-ways. It is like reading a good book, you don't know what will happen until the end, and when it is over you miss it.

Peak

Peak is a really good book, also by Roland Smith.
At the begining of the book Peak is a fourteen- year-old boy who climbs skyscrapers and paint them blue. One day he is found by the police and arrested. A few days later another boy trys to copy him, the kid falls to the death. Meanwhile Peak and his family try to save him. Peak's father is a great climber, he climbs Mt. Everest a lot. His mother used to be a great limber until she fell of a wall and wasn't able to climb again.
When the time comes tot go to trial the verdict is simple, Peak will go to jail for three years. Luckily for Peak another option shows up, his father. His father showed up from Nepal to try to get him out of the mess. He asks if his son can go to China with him. The judge agrees and Peak goes on the adventure of his life.
The plan doesn't happent the way Peaks father said though, instead of going right to China they fly to Nepal. They are going to Mt. Everest.
The book is pretty good, it has a lot of suspense, trickery and friendship.

At the great Wall Of China Amy finds the symbol for grace, her grandmother's name. The clue she finds leads her to Tibet. When Cora Wizard the head of the Janus branch meets her son in China she tells Dan he is a Janus. Knowing she is lying Dan runs away revealing his true a identity. After hearing a report on CNN he hitchhikes on trains to Tibet where he is finally reunited with his sister. Nellie Gomez, their au pair, use unknown connections to get them on their way. What happened next is the climax of the story. The suspense literally could not be higher than it is at the end of the book. It is a great book and I would recommend the whole series.
